Getting her fat!

Question Posted Thursday January 11 2007, 5:39 pm

I'm not one to complain...and I'm fat...but my gran is gettin a tad bit too thin! She's a diabetic..and I was wondering what could 'fatten' her up. Like something that will make her put on the pounds?

Thankies!

Is her physician concerned? What she can do depends on the severity of her diabetes. If she has been told to avoid carbs or something, it's going to be hard. In addition, if she has insulin, she has more options than if she's on the pills. One thing I can suggest is that she use some Boost or Ensure. I think they have diabetic formulas if she needs those. It's important for little old ladies not to get too thin - they have higher risks of fracturing bones if they fall. You are right to be concerned.

Bake her cookies.

Make her a cake.

Make her a bag of spiced nuts.

Put avocados in her salads.

Put out chocolates (dark chocolate, it is the healthiest)

Your grandmother is, in all probability, at least 40 years older than you. As a matter of practicality, she's unlikely to take nutritional advice from you seriously, so I doubt it will do either of you much good for you to offer it.

If she's diabetic, then she's seeing a doctor regularly. Let him worry about it; that's his job. This is someplace where your opinion is probably just not welcome.
