hitting any animal simply alienates and confuses them. Kittens have tons of energy, they keep this as they get older, but it comes out in smaller bursts.
you'll see older cats sometimes lay around like cats do, then out of nowhere start darting back and forth all over the place, they need to release energy.
The best thing you can do is play with the kitten with string, or a flashlight, as much as you can.
I know everyone has things to do and everyone's busy, but you shouldn't have a pet unless you are willing to sacrifice some of your time.
The more exercise your kitten gets playing with you, the more it will rest, and have down time, he or she will then turn to you for more play time. if you don't have time to play, set up some fun things for the kitten to do, strings on doorknobs, get a cat tree with scratching posts on it, they will turn to their own toys to play (for the most part) instead of ruining your stuff.
Just love em, and play with them when you can, cats will get very solitary if you are hitting them, they will befriend no-one, because they will be scared of people if it goes on.

I'm not from PETA but no animal deserves to be slapped or hurt. he'll grow out of it eventually.. just have fun playing with him =] [ brOkenbAbix06's advice column | Ask brOkenbAbix06 A Question ]
