Question Posted Thursday December 28 2006, 8:14 pm

Have you ever had a sudden urge to do something? Why do we get them?
Like a couple days ago, I had the sudden urge to kiss my best friend (im f/he's m). Another time I wanted to jump out my window. Talk about random!
Help, I keep getting them...is there something wrong with me?

nooo, there's nothing wrong with you. i have those urges too. just about a month ago, i asked my best friend out [[me f/ him m]]. everybody does it once in a while. sometimes i think of it as our body and mind getting a little "naughty" sometimes. maybe the urge is something we've been wanting to do but never did because we were afraid. but there's times when andrenaline just gets the best of us, and our actions happens before thought. it's nothing to be alarmed about, as long as it's nothing dangerous.

Yes, we all as human beings have had the sudden urge to do something. Once, I wanted a boyfriend because I was so desperate that I asked out a guy and he totally said no because he doesn't date ethnic women. I understood.
Anyway, lets talk about you. When people act on a certain impulse, it's usually an attempt to do or to attain something that they've always desired. This can be anything. Why do we get them? Mostly, that's just our way of revealing our desires and the urge is the need for these true desires to be expressed.
There is nothing wrong with you. The circumstances that goes on in your life are contributing factors to your mood, and your desires, and especially your urges at a sudden time. Basically, circumstances can enhance or decrease your urges at certain times. It all depends on the circumstances.
All you have to do is to really think about the meaning behind your urges. I know...How are you to think about something that compells you so much? The answer is that you just have to. Think about your actions and the consequences of those actions, both positive and negative. Also, consider your desires, which aren't bad. Find a HEALTHY way to chanel and express them. I can't tell you how to do that because that is for you to find out how in your very own way. I'm just letting you know that your feelings, thoughts, and what you covet are the root of these urges that you're having, which is definitely your problem. Acknowledging them and figuring them out is the only way to stop these urges, which aren't bad you know. Just pay attention to them. It's your body's way of telling you what you feel at that particular moment of your life.
Hope I was some help and have a nice day.

It's perfectly normal. It's just little increase of your emotions. I've had those urges too. Just as long as you don't actually give into your urges, nothing would go wrong.

Once I had the impulse to dance on top of my desk in front of the teacher..

Well, i think its normal. It could probably just a rush of energy from something (i usually get those) and it makes you want to do crazy things (or just random things). Its normal, nothin is wrong with you.

i doubt that there is anything clinically wrong with you, maybe you get mood swings.

the urge to kiss your friend can be because you were really happy that you had to do something to show your happiness. or maybe he said or did something to you.

the urge to jump out the window could be because you were angry or frustrated and it could have been subliminal anger and frustration or some you had to deal with.

you get urges like these to express your feelings and it usually comes out because you are botteled up good or bad. try to be relaxed more daily and show your feelings, hug your friends and yell if you must. (not too often though).
