Mostly to parents (or anyone in the medical profession) SICK
Question Posted Thursday December 21 2006, 8:21 am
This is my 3rd and hopefully final sick question.
Okay, so Tuesday I left school around 9 because I felt sick. I didn't get sick but I started to feel much better around 11ish. Around 5ish I went to Target to pick up some ginger ale and to get some fresh air. Probably a bad move on my part. I got a stomach ache, but not a bad one. The following morning I felt sick, stayed home from school, got sick around 7:45 was fine by 8"30. Lost the sick feeling by 11ish again. I had one last thing to pick up so I went to target again but this time around 4. I returned home around 5. Ate some crackers and the queasy feeling came back. Why am I giving you these details? My question is - how come from waking up-11ish I feel like crap, but after that I start to feel fine. And I'm sure the reason I get queasy later is because I've gone out.
I don't think I'm contagious because I've been around people and none of them have gotten sick (then again, you never know). So right now I'm wondering, is there any reason why this may be happening. I know it's probably just your assumptions, but it's nice to know. I know that vomiting/fever/runny nose etc is going around and when my mom had it monday night-tuesday afternoon she had talked to her doctor and the doctor said to let it run its course. But I'm kind of weirded out that between 11-probably 4ish I feel fine but any other time I feel icky. Also that when I sleep I don't wake up until my sisters alarm clock goes off around 5:30.
So does anyone have any ideas why this is going on. Or is this something that only a doctor can answer. I'm looking for experiences or something, not necessarily why, but possibilities.
Also, I know I'll probably end up vomiting it up, but I'm REALLY thirsty. So I've been drinking some ginger ale and at this point I don't care if it comes back up. Is that a bad thing? And once the ginger ale is gone (I have about half a water bottle full) Is water the next best thing?
I know this is my 3rd question on the subject, but it's really starting to weird me out. Thanks to those who answer and who have answered the previous 2.
Additional info, added Thursday December 21 2006, 12:37 pm: Oh and I'm 16/female. Also someone said that maybe because I'm sick more at morning time that it could be pregnancy. But seeing that I'm a virgin, that's pretty unlikely, don't you think?
This is a first - it's 12:30 and my stomach still kind of hurts. I think it may be because I'm hungry, but since I've been okay by this time the past two days it just seems strange to me. Oh well.

if it really was a concern, the doctor would have wanted to see you. yea, water is the next best thing to ginger ail, infact it is BETTER than ginger ale...
it just kinda tastes bad/wierd/like nothing
and you would probly drink more ginger ale
well do what the doctor sais... just wait it out because the doctor knows WAY more than anny of us...
and drink losts of fluids and get pleanty of sleep
hope you feel better soon
luv emi:)

karenR answered Thursday December 21 2006, 1:00 pm: I have my 5 grand kids over and it has affected them the same way. I think it is just the nature of this particular bug.
They threw up. Then an hour later were acting like hooligans again. Then they would say they felt bad again. Threw up, and were back at it in a couple of hours like nothing was wrong at all.
They drank lots of water and picked at their food the first day. After that they were fine.
I got sick myself and threw up a couple of times. I drank 7 up and didn't eat much. Slept the day away and was OK the next morning.
So it is a strange one. Drink all you can and eat what you can tolerate. Hopefully it will be gone for good in the morning at latest. If not call the
Doc. :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]
Razhie answered Thursday December 21 2006, 11:34 am: If you are truly worried dear then yes, go see a doctor, but honestly it doesn't sound odd to me at all that at some point during the day, when you are relaxed and comfortable you start to feel better, and then after a bit of activity you get tired and the cold takes hold again.
Just keep the liquids coming. I think gingerale is great, I also find it really easy to drink gingerale mixed with cranberry juice. It's very good for you and uber easy for your body to absorb (cranberries also contain something that is known to fight off some bacterial infections, though I can't remember what it is called off the top of my head.) Personally, I find plain cold water hard to keep down. Tea is better in my opinion, but that is probably personal preference.
Just don't push yourself hun, if you are still vomiting without improvement in a day or so, or if you get any worse, then absolutely go see a doctor. But for now it just sounds to me like you might need to take it a bit easier and not tire yourself out just because you feel pretty good for a few hours. When I was younger, I had a very bad bout of something similar. When I saw the doctor, I was told that I was dehydrated (even though I thought I was drinking plenty), and the doctor wanted to put me in the hospital and on an IV to re-hydrate me.
I was a kid and freaked out at the thought of being in the hospital and having an IV, so the doctor told me that if I followed her instructions exactly, she wouldn't make me go.
She told me to drink lots and lots of fluids. Specifically, water and gatorade. I wasn't much for water at the time, so I drank a lot of gatorade. A lot. Like a glass of gatorade every hour.
She also told me a few foods to eat that would help absorb stomach acid, and curb the diarrhea and help to make firm stool. She said to eat: crackers & cheese... pretzels... And toasted cheese sandwiches. Not grilled cheese, but toasted. Put bread in the toaster, and when the bread comes out, have a slice of cheese ready and put it between the hot toast, so it gets a little melty. The other thing was soup, like chicken soup. It hydrates and nourishes.
I followed these instructions and didn't have to go to the hospital. And to this day, I still crave toasted cheese and gatorade. :-)
Now, having said that, I think you know that you should see a doctor about this. None of us are doctors and we can only relate to your our experiences. But your problem may not be what we had, and you really should see a doctor.
mariahwannabe answered Thursday December 21 2006, 9:34 am: It kind of happened to me.What you need to do is NOT EAT AT ALL for twenty four hours , only drink water but you have to take a small sip every 10 mins. But if you keep puking it up after siping it every 10minz then drink every half an hour, but DONT EAT.I had a doctor visit and the directions Im telling you is what they told me.The things was I so ill that I caught up another bug, maybe that is exactly what has happened with you [ mariahwannabe's advice column | Ask mariahwannabe A Question ]
