What age should you start going to a gynocologist? I just turned 13 and i have had my period for about 1 3/4 years. And how would i aproach the subject with my dad since i live with him and not my mother.
How to approach your dad all depends on your relationship with him. Is he open and modern? Does he usually take an active role in your healthcare in general? Do you share secrets with him? How did he react when you first started menstruating? It also depends on why you want to go to the GYN. If you want to go for birth control pills, make sure you can safely talk with your father before you bring it up or speak with a trusted female relative who can be present when you speak with your Dad. Remember, you are a minor and while laws may vary by state, most doctors will still feel a need to share *some* information about your exam with your father. If you have questions about sexuality or need clarification about your body and its functions, you can consult your school nurse or possibly Planned Parenthood.
