Yesterday, i went to this shop to know if i could get it repaired they asked for $400-$600 depending on the work, which i really cannot afford but i really want to have it done. what could b done? I would never wanna sell it for the world...

NM that a mall shop will just look at you and go "Umm...yeah...". If you try to go the cheap route to repair a 40+ year old Rolex, you run a high risk of getting screwed over.
Make sure you go to an AUTHORIZED Rolex dealer.
$400-$600 to get it in working order is hella cheap considering:
1. How much a new watch would cost (thousands)
2. Considering that your asking to have a 40 year-old watch repaired
3. You are hoping that they will actually fix it, and not steal the guts. Don't trust anyone who is willing to fix it 'cheap'.
Hang on to the watch, and keep it safe. You can fix it sometime in the future when you have the money to have it fixed correctly, by someone who wont screw you on it. [ Erronius's advice column | Ask Erronius A Question ]

If your family asks you what you'd like for Christmas/Birthday, etc., let them know that you'd like donations toward work on the watch. Anyway, the watch can still hold memories without being in working condition. I hope you get it done.

If you can't find anything cheaper you can just keep that way- it will be worth lots some day, no matter if it's working or not. You could ask for a loan from the bank or you parents, and you could see if the store would do a payment plan (like a car sorta).
Solaris answered Sunday December 17 2006, 3:14 pm: Ill give ya 200 bucks fer it. Ha just kidding. I would either shop around for more prices, or just save up for the repair costs. Maybe someone could also let you do a payment plan on it. [ Solaris's advice column | Ask Solaris A Question ]
