Ok, well I love this guy and I dont know how to tell him. We're like best-friends and we have been for about 3 years and I don't want to freak him out by this.
How should I say it? Something subtle or direct?

DON'T tell him that you love him just yet. Use the word "like" instead. "Like" may surprise him, but it's not going to freak him out like "love" might. He's not going to look as far into it as you are. It's always best to just let everything out. Even if he doesn't share the same feelings, it won't be awkward if you don't let it. If he does share the same feelings, keep from telling him you love him until you are in a relationship just to be safe. You can even say "I have loved you for a long time, but I wanted to wait for the right time to tell you" or something like that. Good luck!
