goth/emo

Question Posted Saturday December 9 2006, 10:35 am

I just started a new school this year, and I started dressing "preppy"/casual, and made lots of new friends with my outgoing personality and all. Well, on the other hand, my best friend (from a different school) is into the goth/emo scene, and for a little while a few months ago I was too. Now I'm back into it again, and when I changed my myspace to totally death-looking emo pics and changed my pop music to death metal, I'm getting so many more responses than I thought. And from the "preppy" people, they're not liking it too much and keep asking what's wrong with me and asking 'what happened?!'-and my other friends, including my best, love it. I want to start dressing that way, but I'm way too afraid of what the student population thinks of me. Any suggestions on what I should do about this whole thing?

you should just wear what you want to wear. and if people don't like it then they were never really your friends in the first place. instead of just jumping right in to goth/emo try going "scene" it is like a preppier punk. lol like you can wear pinks and skinny jeans and striped flats. and you could wear cute necklaces and clips and headbands with a band shirt. try buying like a pink studded belt to wear with some jeans. and buy a lot of cute ballet flats. so basically whatever out you wear make sure to wear some color. or try wearing striped leggings with a skirt with a studded belt. it is so cute. and but some cute converses. they are adorable =] some stores to go to are delias, pacsun, wet seal, hot topic, and sometimes H & M.

just have fun with what you wear and dont let anyone else influence how you dress.

Hey, it's your life and your body. Do whatever you want with it. But you're still going to be the same you. If your friend don't like you anymore, then regard it as them only liking you for what you wear and not who you are. Just be whatever you want to be and don't let anyone be a hindrance to it.

If peole ask what happened and such none sense, ask them what's wrong with the way I am? And if people criticize you, say "Well, I'm not the one liking people for what they wear." and point out to them that you're still the same person inside and that what you wear is your choice. Or just get a new group of friends who will respect your choices and not put you down.

I'm going through the same thing. I guess I was in the emo/punk scene for 3 years and I changed my look to punkish/casual/classy thing. Then my friend was like why are you dressing like that? And started to criticize me and I found new friends and it works out a whole lot better.

Alright, as soon as I started reading this, I instantly thought of how this happened to me, and how people's reactions to what you wear are way more that I would have thought.

I'd definitely just say to dress how YOU want. You seem pulled between two cliques, so choose the one you like dressing to impress more. I personally find it more fun to dress more punk, because it's more individual, and frankly saves money in my case, lol.

But you COULD always dress preppy-punk.(A good few good stores for that are Wet Seal, Delia's, Hot Topic-take my word, lol, and suprisingly, Aero.) That's overall what I began doing. Wear pinks and blacks together. Wear a hollister/ect tee with a skull necklace. Or if you cant seem to combine the style, make your style very off/on. Dress what you feel like dressing for the day. One day you may be wearing uggs, preppy tees and cute little skirts, while the next day you may be wear all black.

Do what you feel suits you best. =D
