A CD/DVD combo drive is better, since it does two things.. obviously.. and a DVD drive can be used to backup your whole library in iTunes. So I recommend a combo drive.
After you buy it, it's very easily installed. However, I recommed bringing in your computer to BestBuy (they'll charge you a fee, but it's better than ruining your computer with ESD by accident, unless you know what you're doing). Or oyu could being it into any computer shop. If you buy the part at BestBuy (or Circuit City or wherever) they may give you a discount on installing the drive too.
Once it's installed, you should be able to burn CDs! (and DVDs)
