i hate to sound like a broken record...
but it doesn't really sound like this guy likes you more than a friend. but if you really like him, then try to get to know him better. but don't change yourself to someone that hes dated before or had a fling with. be your self. chances are that hes wanting to try a new girl because he's sick of the old one, not a copie of the ex. stay true to what you feel & i know this advice sounds harsh & makes your stomach skwirm, but hey boys feelings change constantly.

Hmm...
I am pretty sure that he doesn't have a thing for you. You guys know each other through a church thing, and that is the only way, so I don't think a real romance could develop from just that. He might have a minor crush on you, but it won't become anything unless you hang out outside of the church thing.
Remember: true love doesn't happen over the phone, over the internet, or through text message; true love happens in person.
