Running in place only forces one's legs to move up and down in a running motion, while running forces one's body to do the work necessary to propel oneself forward. hopeless_n_indiana answered Saturday November 25 2006, 5:10 pm: well, technically running in place is still considered exercise but i highly doubt it is comparable to actually running. When you run, you develope fast and slow twitch muscles in your legs, you develope leg turnover and improve your VO2 max, running in place would NOT do that.
