Ska style?

Question Posted Wednesday November 8 2006, 6:17 pm

So, next week i'm going to a Reel Big Fish concert with the guy I like. I'm just now getting into ska music, and I want to fit in with this guy and his friends. What clothes do I wear that won't make me look like an idiot? Because even though now I'm listening to this music that I'm starting to love, I have no idea what the "look" is supposed to be. Basically I want to look like I have a clue what's going on.

Thanks,
Sweets

you could dress like how you ussually do, because you should just be you. but if you feel like you really want to "fit in" but not make it ovouis that you tried, just wear a simple plain black t-shirt with a pair of jeans..maybe converse or something..
hope i helped

dont change just to fit in with this guy and his friends. be yourself. if he doesnt like you for who you are then its his loss! inform him that you just started getting into this kind of music.

I have loved ska for many years and will also be attending a Reel Big Fish concert in the near future (11/17 in Champaign-Urbana, IL) One of the great things about ska is that there is no real "scene" associated with it, unlike other genres like emo and punk. There is some symbolism in the checkered pattern, mostly a reference to "two-tone" ska, which promotes racial tolerance and harmony. For the most part, there is no one way to dress for a ska show. Just dress comfortably, and be prepared to be hot from skanking/dancing around or being around people who are. Have fun!

theyre big on checkers (like black and white checkered things) and flat, probably slip-on, shoes. but theres no real dressing up for a ska show. you just want something you can skank in (aka ska dancing)
