Insecurity There is this guy named Paul in 2 of my classes. A little info about him: he's the kind of guy that slacks off at school, doesn't care about life, is very insecure, and falls head over heels over a girl he likes.
Well, everyone says that he wants to ask me to homecoming. He always ALWAYS asks me to be his partner in everything, he strikes up conversations, he flirst a lot with me, etc. The thing is taht I only like him as a friend and nothing more. He's not my type either. I'm afraid that if I turn him down, he'll get depressed, mad, etc. Is there a way to turn him down gently without breaking his heart? And please don't suggest the trite: "I only like you as a friend" because that will hurt him

Well I have been in this postion before, and simply say something like
aww thats so sweet, but I was kind of planning on going and meeting up with some friends, but it would really cool if you just meet up with me at the dance and we can chill together.
