im a 14 year male and i just quit smoking after about 2 years of heavy smoking and i was wondering how long it will take for my lungs to start to get back to normal when im running and stuff
duudee_advicer answered Wednesday September 27 2006, 4:40 pm: Everyone's lungs are different.
You'll see an improvement in about 4-10 weeks.
Slowly they'll clear themselves out bit by bit.
This may takes months, it may take years.
Like I said, everyone's different.
However, there is a chance you might now be 100% clean, but I encourage you to work up to running alot. This can help improve your lungs.
Right now, only run about half a mile, and work up to three over a course of a year.

Not to say you got off scott free though. Smoking, especially as a young teen can negatively effect lung development. You'll likely never be 100%.
But studies show that people who quit smoking before or in their early twenties have a much better chance of avoiding the worst effects of smoking like cancer and asthma. To hurry up the healing, try some aerobic exercise. [ Razhie's advice column | Ask Razhie A Question ]
