i asked a boy out. and i was really scared to do it.. but i did ! anyway, he said maybe. MAYBE?! i was so scared, everyone said he would say yes.. even his best friend was like, no, he'll say yes. i swear. and im so scared.. but in your opinion, is maybe a good sign? or should i just not even think about it

I agree with everyone below, also. I would just move on. I mean, what guy tells you maybe? He's either into you, or he's not. He shouldn't keep a girl waiting wondering if he likes her or not. And I do agree, maybe is more on the side of rejection, because if he had wanted to go out with you, he would have just said yes.
But, if you still really want to go out with him, I suggest just try talking to him more, flirt, and show him what a great girl you are and how lucky he'd be to have you, and hopefully that maybe would fall into a "yes".
But, like I said before, I would just forget him and move on. A guy should either answer "yes" or "no". No "maybes".
