I have been having pain on my left side of my jaw on the bottom like underneath my skin. it hurts to touch it, or to turn my head. i know i didnt break it, because i dont remeber ever hitting it. is it because i use my vocal chords to much?

I see this is an older question, so I hope you are better by now. Anyway, yes there could be a correlation to singing and or yelling. If that is the case, more than likely it is from overuse of the muscles that surround your jaw..and not so much the vocal cords. It's amazing how many muscles are in the face/jaw, and how many we use just for talking! Although, vocal cords do get inflammed and cause a hoarse voice.

If your pain has not resolved by now, I hope that you would see a Dr to rule out a more serious problem like an infection. Best of luck :-)

you should be more specific about the area.

is it ON your jaw or under it?

if it's ON it you could have just over worked it or maybe turned your head the wrong way without realizing it.

if it's under your jaw, like closer to your throat it could be an infection growing, like tonsilitis. When I first started getting tonsilitis I thought it was my jaw too and I couldn't turn my head. It stopped hurting for a day and then my throat started hurting and my lymph noids (near your jaw) started swelling and my tonsils got really red and swollen. Check with your doctor, I might be wrong.

um thast weird have you been lying on your stomache when you sleep? sometimes you are putting pressure on your chin without even knowing it. if it doesnt go away in a few days go to a doctor. I doubt it would be vocal cords because I'm a singer and I'm never experienced that but it wouldnt hurt to talk to your vocal teacher or parents or something. hope you feel better!! good luck
