How do I make my mom understand what she wants isn't me!
Question Posted Friday September 8 2006, 10:47 pm
Okay I personally am a dark person. I love vampires and reading musty books and listening to goth music and I like wearing the color black. Now heres the problem my mom won't let me buy black clothes and I don't know what to do. She won't let me get black nail polish or let me wear eyeliner but I really want to. What should I do? Also my room is really disgusting. In the morning I have very very very very light pink walls and in the evening it looks coffee with creme curtains how do I make it look more gothic or punk. I really want to show my mom that I'm not a normal kid and that she can't change it.
Additional info, added Saturday September 9 2006, 6:07 pm: does this sound sort of gothic. dark green comforter, absolutely no bright colors, dark room, candles, books put on a shelf backwards and my sketches and paintings on the wall? . About your room, explain to your mom how you want to redo it and if she doesn't let you, expalin that it would give you a sense of belonging.

Tell your parents that's who you are, and they can't change that. And if the object, just keep doing what you are. After a while, they'll realize you are serious and they should let you be.

That does sound sort of gothic, but you could try a dark blue or a dark purple comforter instead of green unless you want your bed to stand out.
[ xOalmaOx's advice column | Ask xOalmaOx A Question ]

Start subtly doing your makeup darkly, maybe just rim the bottom of of your eyes black and gradually make it darker and darker. You could also use markers to colour your nails black.
You also need to have a talk with your mum to tell her you're different. If you want to, you should tell her it's probably a phase, that always helps my mother. [ Imperialistic's advice column | Ask Imperialistic A Question ]

Or 'rebel', keep bugging her until she gives in, annoy her about it. The silent treatment works no matter how old you are, even though it may seem silly.
Paint your room yourself. Once again buy it yourself if you can afford it. Take the curtains down, hang a sheet up or something. Maybe none at all if you don't want.
As far as your nails, use a black sharpie. It fades fast though and it's kind of annoying. Otherwise it isn't that expensive you could get it on your own too.
If you can show her how bad you wanna be this 'dark person' the maybe she'll see it and give in.

take things very slow at a time, with the clothing and everything. she'll be more used to everything if you do it this way.
