Volleyball Try-outs

Question Posted Friday August 18 2006, 2:34 pm

I have volleyball try-outs in roughly a week, and I would appreciate any advice on how to do well at them. What should I eat, what should I do beforehand, when should I sleep, and any advice fromother volleyballplayers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Definitely stick with protein & carbs because that's where you're going to get your energy from. Stretch for 15 minutes & drink plenty of water & Gatorade. Don't drink TOO much though - it is possible. & sadly, you will end up throwing up if you overdo it. I believe that was my mistake, haha. Oh yes, get atleast 7-8 hours of sleep.

well i dont play volleyball but to get ready for basketball tryouts last year, i remembered to eat a healthy dinner the day before tryouts and make sure i got at least 8 hours of sleep. so depending on what time you have to wake up, you`ll know what time you have to go to sleep. other than that stuff..there isnt really much more. good luck at tryouts!!

Eat something familiar that will give you energy too. Like, waffles or your favorite cereal. Don't eat anything too sugary though, cause you'll get a sugar spike, and when it's over you'll feel drained of energy. Get a good sleep (I don't know exactly how much you need, but at least 8 hours, I'd suggest 9). When you're at tryouts, be LOUD. Call for the ball, cheer on your teammates, and go for EVERYTHING! It will most definitely bring attention to you. I am a volleyball player, and I know those are the little things that make a good player an amazing one. Good luck, hope you make it!

Hey, I have volleyball tryouts soon too. and i've played for about 6 years, so this is what i normally do. you should eat healthy, but eat about 2 hours before the tryouts. if you are really hungry right before you leave, just take a simple snack. get alot of sleep so you have enough energy. i would say around 9-11 hours of sleep is enough. make sure you are hydrated by drinking lots of water. dont forget that the coaches are looking for skills, but also confidence and hustling. if the coach says shag up all of the balls, be the first one to leave the group and the first one to come back. coaches love it when you listen to them very carefully. I hope I helped and all goes well.
remember- dont be nervous and try your best. have confidence and energy!
