If I put a restraining order on someone who is threatening to kill me, is that person (that I'm putting a restraining on) notified? & is it okay to put a restraing order on someone who lives out of state now? If this person tries to contact me after the restraining order is in effect, what can happen to that person?
truthonfire answered Saturday August 5 2006, 9:29 am: The person is notified right away and is told the consequences of breaking the order. As to what happens to them, it all depends on what is in the order. You can put a restriaining order on someone out of state if you feel threatened by them, but the courts have to approve it first. You can put a restraining order on anyone regardless of where they live. If the person tries to contact you, you need to report it immediately. That is the only way they will know.
