Question Posted Monday July 31 2006, 1:33 am

alright, so i have been a veggie for about five years, and i didnt notice anything wrong. but in the past two years my body has been acting different. a year and half ago i was diagnosed with anemia. i had lower and low iron, and i had to take pills so i would have energy. i've been taking blood tests every 4 months since, and they say i've been getting better. Also i've really noticed, with in the past two years, hair loss, or thinning. i never really had thick hair, but it's gotten to be so thin and you can see it on the bathroom floor, it's really gross. it'll fall out when i brush it, wash it, blowdry it, straighten it. anything. i use heat protector aswell.

so my question is .. has anyone gone through this as well? mainly the hair thinning part. and who should i go talk to? when i talk to my mom my mom says "cause you dont eat" and i do. i eat a lot. and my doctor says "we'll run some tests" but we never do. is there a certain doctor that i should see? thank you.

This very well could be a nutrition problem, but yes you do need to see a Dr, because other issues like a thyroid disorder can cause thinning hair. The best place to start is a family doctor who can refer you to a specialist if that is what you need. If your Dr. didn't give you answers, switch to a different general practice physician. How much protien do you get in your diet? This may be a factor that you can discuss with the doc.

I'm a vegan, so I know just what your going through, my hair did the same thing.
What you need to start doing is taking a daily vitamin (preferably one thats vegetarian). Because what it is, is that your not getting the right nutrition in your diet.

hey, im a veggie too. ive been one my whole entire life. ive nevre experienced any sort of these problems. so i dont believe that being a veggie is the cause. hair loss occurs often when your on some sort of drugs. so if your taking drugs that could be it. as for the weight loss, there are veggie burgers and other veggie stuff that you can eat that might help gain some weight. veggie burgers have no meat in them just to let you know just incase you didnt know. also make sure you dont skip any meals. if you really want those tests that your docotr keesp promising let him know that your serious about it, and that you really truly want them done. tell him not to take this lightly.

this must have something to do with the anemia because having an iron deficiency may cause hair loss (anemia runs in my family)being a vegitarian, maybe you didnt consume enough of the essential vitamins in meats an stuff like that...umm i would consult a doctor if i were you and tell them your issues....you should also try looking here incase-->

I am not sure if there are alot of "hair" doctors, but I searched it up on google and I came up with this: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
check it out. What I am confused on is what does it mean " you are a veggie"? Is it because you dont eat enough veggies??? I say go to another doctor but is a "hair" doctor, then ask him what can i do to help myself? Maybe eating food that have iron in it? or maybe just healthy fruits and veggies?

I hope I helped and that everything will go Ok!! :D
