What does the fishie do while we're on vacation??? My son has a goldfish that he won at a carnival last year. It lives in one of those 1 gallon tanks that has a filter. Suprisingly, this fish has almost doubled in size and is doing very well!
My question is, we are going on vacation for 7 days and I don't want him to starve...
I saw one of those automatic pyramid fish feeders at the store. Do those work? It says on the package that it feeds up to 20 fish in a larger tank...would it be overkill if I put that in his tank?

Hey!
The automatic filters DO NOT WORK. Me and my family went on vacation for 5 days and asked the neighbors kids to come earn a few bucks and come to feed our cat. The first person was also going on vacation but since there are alot of teens then we asked our moms friends kids and they earned a couple bucks feeding the cat.
SO dont waste your money on the 'automatic fissh feediers' and just hire a kid from the sreet to come feed the fish in the morning and at night. Everything should work out. ]
yea you can get a 7 day pyramid. they work pretty well. if its only a 1 gallon tank though, you could probably have a neighbor watch it. but i would just do the 7 days one. and it doesnt really overfeed it ]
Actually with Gold Fish, it's better to under feed rather than over feed. They will eat all the food that is provided for them, which of course can lead to their demise. I am wondering if you look closer at the feeder, if it can be set to feed just one fish (especially since it says up to 20 fish). Here's one that you can check out at WAL-Mart

I had to use one of those for two weeks once and yes they do work but I had around 16 sheep head minnows in my 20 gallon tank.
You need a much smaller one because yes, it will overfeed the fish. The smaller ones look like seashells. If there's still some left over when you get home, just take it out and start feeding the fish normally again.
If you go to Petco, they'll tell you everything you need to know. Or even Wal*mart because they have them too. ]
