elipongo answered Friday July 28 2006, 12:21 pm: I don't see why it wouldn't be okay.
Postpartum stitches, whether they're from an episiotomy or from simple tearing, are usually in the Perineum (the area between your genitals and your rectum).
Most women masturbate by stimulating their clitoris, which is on the opposite side of the vagina.
So, as long as you're not manipulating in the area where your stitches are, there shouldn't be a problem.
Of course, if it hurts or you feel yourself pulling on the stitches, stop what you're doing.
Of course, to be absolutely sure, you can ask your OB/GYN too. No need to be embarrassed, they've likely heard the question many times. [ elipongo's advice column | Ask elipongo A Question ]
kick_me answered Friday July 28 2006, 11:14 am: i think maybe you should wait a little longer and leave it until your stiches are really pulled together becuase if you do masterbate there would be a chance where your stiches would open so just it it some time [ kick_me's advice column | Ask kick_me A Question ]
Elcee answered Friday July 28 2006, 8:31 am: It might be a good idea just to leave off the masturbation for a couple more days. If you split the stitches you will have to wait a lot longer for the area to heal. Also, you may inadvertently introduce an infection into the stitches if you are not careful.
I have heard that it is not a good idea to have sex until at least 6 weeks after birth, without being sure of my facts I think it may cause air to be trapped somehow. Have a word with your midwife because I am sure she will have come across this before.
I know my answer is in the negative but the time will go pretty fast anyway. I wish you and your new baby a brilliant future. Good luck. [ Elcee's advice column | Ask Elcee A Question ]
