An intact hymen has long been considered the best way of telling if a female is a virgin. The presence or absence of the hymen is no factor in determining a female's virginity though. The hymen can be broken in the normal course of physical activities when the body is stretched, as in athletics, sports, or exercises. It may be absent, small, thin, or more rarely, tough and dense, completely blocking the vaginal entrance. It varies in size, shape and thickness from woman to woman. If it is too resistant to tearing it may require a small surgical incision before vaginal intercourse can take place. It's pronounces HI-MEN. You may have also heard this being a woman's cherry. As in "I just popped my girlfriend's cherry." In other words he just ripped her hymen. [ Melody's advice column | Ask Melody A Question ]
