no tooth?

Question Posted Sunday July 23 2006, 6:40 pm

I have a tooth that still hasn't fully grown in yet. (some people call them the vampire teeth or the pointiest ones) I lost it exactly 1 year ago. I am 14 years old and it's starting to grow but it looks really weird because it kind of looks like I'm missing a tooth, or i have a really short tooth. Is this normal? and does anyone know any ways to make it grow faster?

This is one of your canine teeth (also called eye teeth in your upper jaw, and stomach teeth in your lower jaw)

According to the chart at

[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

the lower canines should erupt in kids around 9-10 years old, the upper ones a couple of years later at 10-12 years old.

You adult teeth should continue to grow until you're about 18.

Your teeth should come in pretty much symmetrically, that is they should look pretty much the same on the left as on the right.

If this one tooth you're describing is growing differently than it's counterpart on the other side, you should consult with your dentist.

This set of teeth has to last you the rest of your life. You need to make sure they all come in right.

Best Wishes.

For some odd reason they are called eye teeth. If it has been a year coming in you should probably see your dentist. :)
