Brandi_S answered Thursday July 27 2006, 12:07 pm: It all depends on the size of the roots on the plants. Generally, the smaller the plant, the smaller the root ball.
Say for example, you can plant daisy's 1-2 inches apart, but for mammoth sunflowers (that reach heights 6 feet) have to be planted at least 9" apart.
You can find out the distance to keep between plants either on the back of the seed pack or if you are buying starters, you should be able to find it on the tag that came with it. If not, call a nursery. They will tell you.
When planting multiple types of plants in a garden, like daisies and mammoth sunflowers, you would want to plant the daisies 9" from the sunflowers. The bigger the plant, the more water and soil nutrients it absorbs. If you plant the daisy 2" away from the sunflower, the sunflower will absorb all of the water and nutrients leaving the daisy with slim chances of survival. No_such_thing_as_self answered Sunday July 23 2006, 8:06 pm: Well, They can and some times steal water and food from the other plant. It would be best to get some Fertilizer, if its a food garden dont use Fertilizer. Some times it depends on the plant. But give it a little space. it should be fine.
