Question Posted Thursday July 6 2006, 6:42 pm

I worry about everything. I worry about high school (even though my grades are fine), college, public speaking, being myself, my weight (even though I'm average according to the scale), the future, MY future, money, getting a job, you name it. Sometimes I worry so much that I cry, even if it's worrying about something like a speech I have to present in 2 days or failing college because it's too hard. My mom gets angry when I tell her about my worries and she says that I worry too much. I've seen 2 therapists and taken medication. The medication helped a tiny bit, but not much, and the therapy didn't help at all. I'm 16. What should I do?

Well, don't rate me a 1 if you don't like religion, but I'm gonna use it.

God! He's the answer to all your troubles. If you'll just pick up a Bible and read it a bit, you'll know that he knows EVERYTHING that is going to happen, and he wouldn't put anything on you that you couldn't handle. He loves you so much, and he wants you to live for him and be worry-free! Please, just pray. If you AREN'T a Christian, then pray and ask God to come into your life and help you with it! Being able to trust in someone so great will be amazing.

Dear God,
I'm sorry for all the sins I've committed against you or against others. I need you, and I want to invite you into my heart so I can live for you. I can not bare the weight of the world on my own, but I know with you helping me, I can move mountains. Thank you for always loving me.
In Your Name,
Amen

But, if you ARE a Christian, than you need to trust God for the answers, and you need to pray that he will help you with the stress that you are taking on yourself. Just read the Bible everyday, memorize scripture verses about God knowing everything and that he will take care of you.

Sorry if you don't like religion, but it's the best and truest answer I've got.

I hope everything works for you, and if you ever need to talk to someone my AIM screen name is x123onthefelonyy , hopefully you have AIM.

I was EXACTLY the same way when I was 16. I think I worried even more than you do! It is totally normal to worry about ALL the stuff you named. Being a teenager is difficult enough these days, with others trying to bring you down and.. making new friends.. losing old friends.. family issues.. grades changing.. public speaking is one of the hardest things in high school. NO teen likes to go through with that, it's a nerve racking experience. Remember, you aren't the only one worrying over these things.

Your mom shouldn't get mad at you though, because you actually want to talk to her about it. (Most teens won't even try to TALK to their moms) Sit her down and make sure you have all her attention. I don't think you need medication though. Maybe seeing a therapist once a week would be fine, so you could talk to them about what you're mainly worried about for that specific week. Once you get older, these anxieties will ease up and you're life won't seem like a big worry.
