OK.. so i heard that having diarrhea means that something is realllly wrong with your digestive system.. is this true?.. because i havent had a normal poop for a while... ive had diarrhea for weeks...
usually diarrhea only lasts a few days. if it lasts for more than 2 weeks, you can become severly dehydrated. I would suggest you go see a doctor if it continues; there are some medications like Pepto-bismol that you might want to try...it can ease your discomfort and maybe stop the diarehea. You DEFINITELY need to see your doctor if you have fever or notice blood in the stool.
Vikki27 answered Thursday June 29 2006, 1:18 pm: Diarrhoea can indicate any number of things, so please don't panic yet!!
You can get it when you are ill with an infection of some sort. This is most common with stomach bugs but if you have not been physically sick, it is unlikely this is the cause, especially when you have had it for so long.
More likely possibilities are things such as allergies or intolerances and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
Food intolerances and allergies can include such things as Coeliac Disease, lactose intolerance, soya intolerance and so on. Process of elimination can help you to work out if a particular food may be the culprit but doctors tend to advise against this without medical advice because removing foods from your diet can cause more problems than it solves. If you think it might be something along these lines that is causing the problem, if you speak to your doctor about it, he or she will be able to do tests to form a final diagnosis.
As for Irritable Bowel Syndrome, there is a lot of information available on the internet to help you work out if this might be what is making you suffer. Normally, sufferers experience bouts of diarrhoea and constipation at different intervals and in a lot of cases, it can cause nausea, give you bowel cramps and/or stomach cramps and cause you to experience feverish feelings (feeling very hot and shivery at the same time for example). Again, you should speak to your doctor who can confirm if this is what you have and the good news is that there is medication available to help control the symptoms. Also a lot of people find that adjustments to their diet can help.
Whatever you do, you should most certainly see a doctor if you have had this problem for more than a couple of weeks. In the meantime, make sure you keep replenishing your fluids, as diarrhoea can cause dehydration quite easily. [ Vikki27's advice column | Ask Vikki27 A Question ]

If you are eating too much food or too much meat, the same thing can happen to you. Try a change in diet, probably with more fiber, and it should stop in a day or two. Then everything back to normal.
