Fractured Wrist?

Question Posted Wednesday June 28 2006, 10:14 pm

So yesterday, i was standing on a chair when my foot slipped and i fell face first into the carpeting. I used my wrist to break my fall an dever since it really huurts. Its not bruised but my legs and nose are bruised up pretty well from the fall. It hurts when i try to turn my wrist into my body like when i wash my hands, dry them, hook my bra, do my hair, try to wash my hair, eat, etc. This happened two days ago and it is still a bit swollen. I tried wearing a ace splint but that doesn't help from the pain of turning my writs. When you put presure on the bone, it hurts and when i rotate my wrist it hurts a lot. My parents think nothing is wrong and they don't want to take me to get x-rays until a nother couple of days. Im icing it and taking ibprofeun but it isn't helping. Anybody have any ideas?

There is a myth about broken bones "I can still move it so it's not broken" Thats not always the case. There are tiny bones in the wrist that can easily be fractured when falling and landing with your hand palm down and extended. Sometimes if a broken bone (fracture) is not in perfect alignment it will not heal properly and your range of motion will be limited forever! It's worth the trip to the Dr for x-rays and you shouldn't wait because in 2 days it could be healing wrong already.

If it is still bothering you in a couple of days
then go see your doctor. In the mean time treat it as you would a sprained ankle. Sounds like that is what you are doing. Take the ibuprofen.

A doctor would have to rule out a fracture. Most of the time though if a person has a wrist fracture from breaking a fall you would definitely know it. They are usually visibly deformed. You also wouldn't be able to move it at all.

Yes. You need to go to a doctor. The way your describing sounds like a bad sprain or even broken. Yea there can be a broken bone and you cant tell&& doctors cant tell without xrays. So i suggest you go to a doctor.

Since it happened two days ago. And it actually needs anyform of a cast they usually wont put it on.

I know that from past experiences.

IM WRITING IN CAPS SO YOU CAN SEE THE EDIT:

wHEN I WENT TO THE HOSPITAL FOR MY WRIST. tHEY ASKED ME HOW LONG IT HURT I SAID 2 DAYS AND THEY SAID. iT WAS REALLY SWOLLEN AND CHANCES OF BROKEN BONE. bUT BECAUSE I WAITED TWO DAYS TO GET TO THE HOSPITAL THEY WERENT GOING TO BE ABLE TO PUT A CAST ON.
