Mosquito Bites!

Question Posted Monday June 26 2006, 2:50 pm

I was just away all weekend camping with some of my old and new est friends and I got about 50 misquito bites just on my legs. They itch like nobody's bussiness but I don't want to itch them. Does anybody have any remedies for itchiness that actually work? I've already tried the ice cube and rubbing alcohol (as suggested by friends) and, while they work, they hurt lie crazy!

Also, does anybody have any ways to avoid being bitten? I'm not sure if its possible because I wore long pants and a TON of insect repellent, but I'm going back to camp (but a different one) for two weeks in the middle of the summer and don't want to be itchy the whole time!

To prevent from so many mosquito (or as much as possible) wear as little fragrance as possible! Including perfumes, colognes, or insect reppellents that are fragranced. Make sure you avoid those and that your insect reppellent is fragrance free. Usually they state that in big letters on the label. Also, try avoiding staying out for long periods of time from dusk till dawn - Mosquitos come out mostly around that time. Another thing would be to avoid swimming in the evening or being around bodies of water. Mosquitos are attracted to water.

I use Benadryl on my mosquito bites. I find it helps a lot better than anything else I've tried.

According to my dad, mosquitos hate Vitamin B, so I would recommend going to the drug store and getting a bottle of daily vitamins with at least 100% of your daily value of Vitamin B. Do this soon, and take them EVERY DAY before and while you're there. But you should still use ridiculous amounts of bug spray.

Good luck at camp, and I hope I helped!

When you are outside stationary in one place use
a citronella candle or insence that gets rid of mosquitos. Also get anti-itch spray and other things like that. =]

Absorbine Jr.-

I find that Absorbine Jr. Works much better then the pens do.

a lot of the same remedies for sunburn itch work for mosquito itch. aloe vera gel, unscented lotion, cold showers. the trick is not to scratch them ever. they'll heal faster and cleaner and won't itch so much.

to avoid being bitten stay inside around dusk and early in the morning. if you have to be outside wear a deep-woods repellent and thick long pants that meet your shoes. make sure there's no gaps between the two so that the bugs can't get in. also, make sure there aren't mosquitoes inside when you go to bed and tuck your pajama pants into your socks just in case. wear an unscented deodorant, no make-up, and no perfumes/colognes. try not to use heavily scented soaps or shampoos and rinse well before leaving the shower.
