i have no control, but she still manages to make me feel bad
Question Posted Monday June 26 2006, 12:39 am
i have a friend who enjoys making me feel bad about stuff i have no control over. She likes this kid who absolutely can't stand her because she's clingy (i'm not trying to be mean, but i just thought its good to include every detail) she's absolutely in love with him and if he doesn't answer her on AIM she freaks out with the "are you mad at me? what'd i do" etc. He doesn't like her, but he does like me, and i like him. And she just can't accept it.(i sounded like a bitch, but i didn't mean to) Well he and i talk and may date, and she's always saying things like "i don't see why you talk to him, he's an asshole, if i were you i would have given up on him" and then she tries to make me feel bad or something by saying "i really like him, but there's nothing i can do, he likes you.. it's because i'm ugly...i just wish i had someone like you do" and stuff and i don't know how to politely tell her to shut up about it already. i mean, she just is always such a downer and i just can't take it anymore! i want to be friends with her and everything, but not if shes gonna be obsessed with him and always jealous/angry or whatever.

Chicchicaabr answered Monday June 26 2006, 10:07 pm: I have a friend like this and the way I get over it is to say to myself "She's just insecure." She is probably jealous of you, and unfortunately, nothing can help that. She's trying to put you down to make herself look good. Why don't you try doing something one on one with her, like something you both enjoy. If there is a cute guy around, encourage her to go talk to him. But if he shows interest in you, quickly guide her away. Tell her that the afternoon is up to her.People like her tend to be more friendly if they are alone with you and can laugh about a lot of insiders. Hope that helps!

I think your friend is one heck of an INSECURE gal..... That's why she's trying to pull you down. Oh, and she's a good hypocrite, too. Sorry if that's kinda mean but it's the truth. She's trying to sound pathetic just so you would just leave the guy to her. Well actually she's really pathetic.
It's already up to you if you still wanna put up with a "friend" who constantly pulls you down or not.
Elcee answered Monday June 26 2006, 6:02 am: Is she really your friend? I personally wouldn't have anything to do with someone who treated me like that. A true friend would be pleased for you and wouldn't spend her time belittling you for fun.
Tell her straight and plain that you and this guy are going to be dating and nothing she can say or do will change your minds.
If she continues to be nasty and foul-mouthed about everything then I suggest that you find yourself some more worthy friends.
She will probably sulk, cause problems for you, have a go at the poor guy and generally make life unpleasant for you both. Therefore, I suggest that you and your new boyfriend-to-be have a chat at the very beginning and promise to tell the absolute truth about everything so that your friend cannot manipulate either of you into believing any lies she may spread to try and break you up. I wish you all the very best. [ Elcee's advice column | Ask Elcee A Question ]
