Please, help me. I don't have a lot of room in my kitchen, so, I keep all of my pans & things in my oven, including a plastic, flexable cutting board I had. My daughter went to make something & preheated the oven & it melted! The racks aren't too bad. Most of it went to the floor of the oven. I scraped most of it off, but, there is a thin layer that just won't come off. Any ideas?

Sunshine answered Saturday June 24 2006, 4:38 am: The same thing happened to me. My brother put a bowl of shrimp jambalaya in the oven because he didn't want anyone to eat it. It was a plastic bowl and I didn't see it when I turned the oven on. The best way to get all the plastic off is to clean it while it's hot. You're going to have to heat the oven again, so the plastic will get soft. Then you can scrape it off with a metal spatula or big spoon. But be very careful, because I still have a scar on my arm, where I burned myself on the rack. Sorry so long, but I hope I helped. [ Sunshine's advice column | Ask Sunshine A Question ]

Maybe in the future if you have to keep plastic in the oven whilst you're not using it, you could have some sort of signalling, like a towel over the handle to say that the oven needs to be checked before it is switched on?
Sorry can't think of anything else to suggest, but I do hope you are able to remove it successfully. [ isis's advice column | Ask isis A Question ]
