My first tattoo

Question Posted Wednesday June 21 2006, 8:01 am

I'm planning to get my first tattoo. I'm searching for the perfect design. I want to get a wolf and a dreamcatcher and my name on my shoulderblade. I just submitted my description on a website to have it custom designed by a tattoo artist. I'd like to know what to expect when I actually have it done. So if anyone that already has a tat could please share their experience. Is it really painful? Do you have any regrets?

Hey I have 2 tattoos and no regrets. As for pain well it depends where you get it, your shoulder blade may be painful due to there not being much fat there but when I got one of mine on my toe it was like small little bee stings, and honestly it doesn't take that long usually.

Do NOT date anything or drink prior to getting it as that could thin your blood and most tattoo artists won't do it if you have taken or drank anything.

Good Luck

I have had one tattoo for 12 years and I have never regretted it. I believe that the main reason I have no regrets is because I was so sure of the symbol I chose and still am. It is something I have always been very attached to and know that will never change. I have known people who got a tattoo and years later wished it was no longer there because they were no longer into the symbol. Therefore, that is my advice to you: if you are at all unsure of the symbol, leave it for now until you know for sure. The process of applying a tattoo (ie, the experience and the pain) is only with you for a few minutes but the actual tattoo is a permanent mark on your body forever.

OK, I'm gonna be the lone dissenter. I have a low threshold of pain, so when I got a tat, it hurt like crazy! It took more than an hour, too. I can't hardly get my finger pricked at the DR, but I sat there and let them ink me up for more than an hour. The difference is that I really wanted the tattoo, so it was all OK. I kept it clean and moist for a few days, but it actually healed pretty quick.

Some things I've heard: colored ink hurts more and fades faster. Some colors look better over time, so choose wisely. Shading hurts. Take some type of pain killer first- ASK the tattoo parlor if it's ok and for a recommendation.

I'm probably the most "vanilla" girl in the world and I have never regretted my tattoo. Make sure you can say the same.

Hi. I myself don't have any. I'm more of a piercings person. But my boyfriend, btoher, sister and mom has some. So I guess I'll just tell you what they have said then..

Its on your shoulder blade, so its gonna hurt since its on a bone. Most people say that it feels like a pinching. It will be sore for a couple of days, and will get a scab over it, so your tattoo parlor should give you something called "Tattoo Goo" That keeps it from getting to dryed out or infected. But if you can't get any of that, then keep a lot of lotion on it.

And as I've heard 100s of times before, keep in mind that when you get old, skin sags, and might not look too hot. But hey, it looked good for a while, right? I don't know. Its really up to you!

Good Luck! :D

it doesnt really hurt- but like the columnist be low me stated- it feels real unconfortable. it depends on how well your pain tolernce is. i, for example- pierced each of my ears myself four times- so id say i have good pain tolerance. everyones different. but i wouldnt worry about it too much. the only thing i can tell you as a bit of advice- is that i have NEVER met a person with a tattoo that didnt regret it to a certain level. some regret getting it placed where they did. some regret what it symbolizes, and most regret getting it at all. just depends on how determined you are to get it done. just have a clear mind when you decide for sure. good luck. have fun!

Well getting a tattoo isn't extremely painful. It feels like someone is scraping a safety pin in the same place over and over again. It's more uncomfortable than painful. Since you're getting it done on your shoulderblade it will probably be more painful than, say, if you were getting it done on your arm. It all depends on where the tattoo is and how big it is. After I got my tattoo I did regret it but only because of where I got it (hip area) but other than that I don't regret it at all.
