No not really. THey both do differnt things. The baking soda makes the item stronger and the powder makes it rise and puffy. Hope that helps.

Not straight baking soda. The easiest substitute is.... For 1 teaspoon, use: 1/4 teaspoon baking soda plus 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar ]
