Tomatoes are fruits. Here's the rule of thumb when trying to tell the difference. Anything w/seeds on the inside or outside of it (like strawberries)are fruits and that also includes squash, cucumbers, pumpkins (which is a squash), eggplants, corn, etc. The reason that fruits like tomatoes and eggplants are lumped in w/vegetables is how they are used by cooks. So, grocery stores lump them in w/vegetables. I know, weird but true. Good luck!

Namaste!

according to supreme court ;; its actutally a fruit. lol. heres what i found --Today tomatoes are on our highest perch, but in 1893 they had their day in the highest court of the land. Are tomatoes a fruit or a vegetable? Ponder that--and that's exactly what the Supreme Court did beginning on April 24, 1893 when tomatoes were elevated to the highest perch in the land, the United States Supreme Court. It's hard to imagine that tomatoes were the subject of a Supreme Court decision that officially labeled them a vegetable. here's the website i found it on -- [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) ... yeahh. me? i personally think it's a fruit, but whatever!

It's a fruit. Vegetables grow from the ground, fruits grow on trees/vines. Tomatoes grow on vines.
