OMG! thanks for the other help you've given me! wow u must be really smart. i have more questions on chemistry! if you can answer some or all, it doesnt amtter, i just need help!

What is the general abbreviation for halides?
and is CH3COOH an organic acid?
and in C2H5OH+CH3OH-->C2H5OCH3+H2O on the product side what organic comound is formed? i don't know weather it's an ester, a keyone,a n acid, or an ether. how can you tell?

hey! aaww thanks... i don't know about really smart but i just took organic chemistry one and two last year and i'm majoring in pharmacy so i kind of know my sciences! :) thanks tho!

anyway, i can't think of what the abbreviation for a halide is, but i know it's a binary compound (has atoms of 2 different elements) and one part of it is a halide (group VII... F, Cl, Br, I...) and the second part is another element (ex. group one metals)! an example of a halide is NaCl aka sodium chlorIDE.

CH3COOH is an organic acid (an acid is something that donates protons (H's), and organic means that it contains Cs and Hs!

lastly, the product is an ESTER... if you draw out the formula you will end up with the O group surrounded by a C on each side... that is the characteristic of the ester functional group. here is a website with what all the functinal groups look like:
