But the most risk is a couple weeks before your next period, because the egg in the uterus is exposed and waiting to be fertilized. Once you start your period the egg disintegrates, so once you get off your period, for the next week the egg is still in the fallopian tube, which is extremely rare for sperm to get to it and get you pregnant. When you're on your period there's still a risk but a low one, since the egg is in the process of disappearing. [ PunkieFreak4690's advice column | Ask PunkieFreak4690 A Question ]
Tulipg17 answered Friday May 26 2006, 8:25 am: That is the average time that most women ovulate (14 days after the start of your period), but everyone is a little different. Plus sperm can live inside of you for up to 7 days, which means that a big portion of the month you are at risk of pregnancy. If you are on the Pill, and you take it at the same time everyday, you are over 99% protected against pregnancy- all month long. [ Tulipg17's advice column | Ask Tulipg17 A Question ]
chris13 answered Thursday May 25 2006, 7:16 pm: Ovulation almost always happens 14 days before you expect your period. For a woman who has 28 day cycles, that would be in the exact middle of the cycle, 14 days after the last period and 14 days before the next one.
