Tell him you love him and list things he's good at, people that care about him, etc. Better yet, have him list it. I've heard from friends to list 10 things you are especialy good at (from telling jokes to shooting free throws), 10 people who really care about you (from your horse to your grandma to your best friend), and then 10 people you really care about.
However, some people just get more depressed if you talk about it. Ask him if he wants to talk about it and if he doesn't, take him out or say something like "Remember when you said something that was so hillarious I almost wet my pants?" [ CavieOwnsU2's advice column | Ask CavieOwnsU2 A Question ]
soendearing answered Wednesday May 17 2006, 5:13 pm: I've been through this many times. You need to reassure him that everything will turn out okay, and that you're there for him. And to respect what he wants, if he just wants to be left alone, respect it, and just let him be. I also go through the same thing. For me, just talking to my boyfriend on the phone makes me happier, try to joke with him a little bit, but don't try to be too funny. And also tell him you love him. :] [ soendearing's advice column | Ask soendearing A Question ]
BlackBatman answered Wednesday May 17 2006, 5:11 pm: Well, communication is the foundation to a good and healthy relationship. Just talk to him and find out what's wrong. Then, you can figure out how you can cheer him up n' make him happy again. Although if that isn't an option, you always could try being extra nice to him. Surprize him with something, or just do the little things that can make a person happy
