netsirk07 answered Wednesday May 10 2006, 10:42 am: I use baking soda for whitening my teeth and it seems to work very well. What I do is I first brush my teeth with toothpaste then with toothpaste and baking soda and after I put a whole bunch of Baking Soda on my teeth and let it sit there for 3 min.
But be careful because sometimes it makes ur lips and stuff all wrinkly.

Tulipg17 answered Wednesday May 10 2006, 8:06 am: No, not significantly. If you want to whiten your teeth a few shades try Crest Whitestrips (or similar products). If you need something more dramatic then your dentist can do it for you, but insurence usually doesn't cover it and that may cost over $1000. [ Tulipg17's advice column | Ask Tulipg17 A Question ]

It is not truly what is termed a "whitener" the way that peroxides, titanium dioxide, and phosphates are. It is decent at scrubbing the surface of teeth, but is not nearly as effective at whitening as the other substances I mentioned.
