i was wondering what should i get my soon to be 4 year old neighbor for his birthday? i was thinking about getting him that Planet Frog Habitat for his birthday but besides the fact that it has really low ratings it says for kids ages 6 and up
has anyone tried that and have reviews on that
also i was thinking fish but fish tanks are expensive and only start at $20. and id have to play for all of the supplies and what not
I am looking for a gift that is under $20 and i would prefer to get him something that you can put animals in (fish tank, Planet Frog Habitat, ant catcher etc) and is all inclusive and doesnt require to much work and you can most likely get at wal-mart or target or toys r us (no ebay or overstock.com)

As I was raising my children there were incidents where they would go to a birthday party and that birthday kid would get a lizard or turtle. I never heared of a parent being happy about this or the animal living for more than a week. Then the child would be crushed and want another animal.
What I would suggest getting is a bug house. One of those little boxes with mesh on the sides. Or a butterfly net or something like that. These should not be hard to come by because of new summer sales.

Maybe you could make up some coupons to go with the pet such as free "cage cleaning" or "tank cleaning"..now that's one gift I would have loved my kids to have when they went through the exotic pet stage!

Where I live they aren't more than about $5, and you could just buy a few goldfish or guppies, or something of that sort. They are only like 50 cents per fish, maybe a bit more. The only other thing you would have to buy is a small container of fish food. It lasts a really long time, so you can get the smallest one. So fish really wouldn't be as much as you think, as long as you don't get a tank. Goldfish and many other types of fish can live just fine in a fishbowl, so you would be okay without a tank. You can get all of these supplies at any pet store.
Other than that, I'm not really sure of any other gift you can put animals in, except maybe the Planet Frog Habitat you were talking about. You could call the stores, and ask them about it.
You could also try calling Toys R Us or another store and asking the same question to them... see if they have any other toys you can put animals in. I'm sure they could answer your question!
