Okay so now that I have flirted with him I have been trying to find sighns of if he likes me or not so when I am with him and his best friend and me and my friend its just the four of us we are totally chatty and he compliments me and it all works out great and he smiles and looks me in the eye but when we went and hung out in a large group he was totally flirty with this other girl and it felt like he didn't really notice me but he did it was wierd so should i give up on him or what??

Well its lookin good if he's smiling and looking you in the eye. He could just someone that flirts with a lot of different people. You just don't really know what his feelings for the other girl are. I wouldn't give up on him yet... it isn't like it is going to kill you if you keep trying to flirt with him. But it might make you sad if you really like this guy and you just give up on him. So why not give it a chance. Keep flirting with him.
Here are some signs to tell if he likes you back:
*When he is around you he is always in a good mood/ smiles or laughs a lot
*He touches your shoulder or hand, or playfully pushes you
*Whenever something happens, he looks at you to see what your reaction is.
*He's stares over at you a lot/tries to make eye contact a lot
*Brings up things you have talked about days ago
*Nervous around you
Just act totally ditsy... guys like that because it makes them feel like they need a strong guy in their life to help them out.

don't give up just yet. i'd continue to flirt with him and stuff cause he seems a little into you. but watch out cause if he's flirting with other girls, he might not be good boyfriend material if you started a relationship with him. but since i don't know him personally or anything, i don't know if that's true or not, soo just keep flirting. what've you got to lose?

I don't think you should give up on him after one incident. Yes he could be a player that likes to flirt with lots of girls, but theres also just as much a chance that he was doing it to show off to you or try to make you jealous (thus if you were, it would prove to him that you liked him and make him more willing to ask you out).
Since you are not going out, you shouldn't pull him up about it. He shouldn't be flirting with you like that only to be the same with another girl, but to angrily speak to him about it may put him off dating you. So what I think you should do is in a friendly manner, talk to him about it. Tell him you saw him and whoever she is were quite flirty the other night. Ask him, just like any curious friend, if there was/was going to be anything going on between them. This way you just appear like a girl curious for a little gossip or a friend wanting to help out. If he says yes there is, well you unfortunately have your answer and you should give up on him. However if he says no, big thumbs up for you! If he seems eager to change the subject or unwilling to talk about her, then there is still hope. Even if a guy does fancy another girl, with the girl he also likes (usually the one he likes more) he finds he just can't talk about it because he likes her too much (or so I have read).
By doing this, you'll be able to find out where you stand and know where to go from here. Good luck
