Well, one of my really, really good friends is in the hospital. Actually, right now he's in a program because they think he did what he did to himself so he would die. Obviously, that alone hurts so much. He's been in there for almost an entire month and for that entire time, I've talked to him, but just on the phone. I know I'm going to see him soon, but it's not like I can go everyday (he's about an hour away). Today, my best friend, his girlfriend, told me that he's going to be gone for another 4 weeks! After that, we only have 3 weeks left of school! I know I have a right to be like sad about it, but how do I keep myself from being too depressed and going crazy?

i've been in the same exact situation.
1.) get his number. I'm not sure how he's behaving so i don't know what security he is on, but if he's doing okay you can usually call him. or ask him to call you.
2.) visit as often as possible. Its not always easy though so i recommend asking your best friend and his girlfriend to tell you whenever they visit, and if you can come.
3.) other then that, hope that he shows progress and is let out soon, but you also have to understand maybe he needs to be there right now, because the people there can help him if its a good program.

my suggestion is that you probably wouldnt be as depressed if you knew that he was happy, so send him cards and letters for him to feel better and visit him as soon as you can and thats really the only way i think you will be okay
