I really like this, you can say odd or weird, style of jeans. All my 'punk' friends do this, they sew their jeans to make them skin-tight! And i really love the style. My problem is that i want to learn how to do it myself with a sewing machine. So far i put the jeans inside out, put them on, and safety pinned them so theyre tight, and then how do i sew them with the sewing machine? Am i doing something wrong? Do i cut them? Please help, i'm very..slow. But instructing me on how to do it, or give me a website (Must Be Very Detailed!!) on how to sew skin-tight jeans will help so much! 5's! Please help! THanks sooo much!
Moop answered Monday April 17 2006, 11:46 pm: first, I suggest you practice on old pants first, not jeans. put them on inside-out and safety pin them around your legs (safety-pin the outer edges, not the inner; use safety pins because they won't come undone). you really only have to do one leg. remove your pants and put them flat on the floor. then make sure both new seamlines are very straight and matching. trade the safety pins for ordinary pins which are easier to remove while sewing using your machine. then sew the new seams on your machine. Finally cut away your excess fabric 5/8ths of an inch from the new seams and iron those to one side or open. adjust your pants as necessary with them on yourself inside-out to get the fit you want. after you do one pair using ordinary fabric you can try tackling denim which is often thicker and more difficult to control. for these reasons you should check to see that your sewing machine can even take sewing denim. some older machines (pre-1990) can't handle it. get a fresh needle meant specifically for heavy fabrics. otherwise your needle will snap and that's very dangerous.
feel completely free to ask me if your machine can take denim. I'd need specific information about your machine's model and how old it is. [ Moop's advice column | Ask Moop A Question ]

my mom sews A LOT.. and what I would do is..
pin the jeans, that's good ((when you pinned the pants make sure they're pinned with sewing pins on the INSIDE seam.. and not with safety pins.. sorry))
then when you take them off, flip the jeans inside out
sew together the two parts across the seem that are pinned together right now.
Sew them with durable thread all the way to the crotch.
Then repeat on the other side.
These are probably not detailed enough and i definitely would get someone to help you.. maybe you could take them to somewhere like "joanns" and they can teach you how. And uh you could always buy some tight jeans too haha good luck! [ Itz_your_luckee_day's advice column | Ask Itz_your_luckee_day A Question ]
