I want to know what are some things that cause premature birth and what disroders or health problems can they develop if they survived.
The reason I'm asking is because I was born premature && I've developed Anorexia.I didnt' know it until I just noticed. And I want to know if being premature has anything to do with me developing Anorexia.
And well I've just recently found out that my mother use to be Bulimic. Could it also be that its genetic., Or because of my premature birth. or both?
My question are :
What kinds of health problems can premature people who survive develope as they grow old?
Is it possible that because of my premature birth, Ive developed ANorexia or is it because My mother had Bulimia when she was my age (13)?
and anything else.
Please Help!!! I'm getting a bit worried & I really want to know. Ill rate 5's & recommend you.

As far as long term problems from being born premature it would depend. Most problems would have been detected by now. The common problems would be vision, hearing, lower IQ compared to peers and Cerebral Palsy. I have read that premie babies sometimes have more social difficulty as teens due to somewhat of a delayed development, but by the time they are adults they overcome those problems.
Anorexia can be caused by medical reasons because basically it just means "loss of appetite". Typically though it is a psychological illness which I think in that case it could be tied to social difficulites that was caused by prematurity. Of course this doesn't mean in all cases that is true. A psychologist would have to determine if those things are tied together for you.
Eating disorders are not genetic in a medical sense, but it could be what I call "environmental". Meaning if you would have been raised in a different environment you may not have developed anorexia.
You sound like a very smart 13 year old. Could be that you are an over acheiver and a perfectionist?
I do want to give you encouragement and hope that with the right help you can overcome your illness.
Never give up!

MOst of the problems you would have had from being premature, all happened when you were very young, and you have grown into a health young person. I would say that your mom's problems with bulimia have more to do with you being anorexic that being premature. I think that in your house there are "unhealthy" attitudes toward food. If you are anorexic than I would say that you think of food as an enemy, instead of being something healthy that you do for yourself. YOu need therapy to help you deal with your condition Please get help before it is too late. People can die from complications caused by anorexia.

Anorexia is an acquired disease, which means that you get it from your environment; or in other words, just because of how you think of yourself. In this case, you probably should not worry about your weight that you may think is too much, but in all reality is probably fine. I bet that you are PERFECT the way you are. Don't try to change yourself because of an impluse you have right now. Go with what I'm saying, and be who you are, not what you want to be, if being who want to be requires anorexia.
I hope I helped
