Everynight I sit in bed for about 2 hours before I fall asleep. Its not a big problem staying awake but the stress I go through trying to fall asleep is terrible. It's been going on everynight for about three weeks. I told my mom there was something wrong with me and that I needed sleep pills but she blew it off. So I began taking tylenol PM (without her knowing) and it put me to sleep within 30 mintues. But this weekend I ended up exposing alot of my secrets to her (that I have been drinking, etc) and told her about the pills. She believes me now and is going to take me to the doctor but she take forever to set up an appointment and I hate bringing it up. So Im going to probably end up taking them again. My question is, are all of these problems I've been having signs that im depressed? To me, it seems like what every kid my age does and that I shouldnt be worried.
As others have said, it's not a good idea to take sleeping pills every night. Try reading homework. Take your most boring class (for me, it's pharmacology) and read something that you haven't even started learning yet. That way, it will already be borring, and, it will be something you've never heard, and most likely won't really understand, and eventually your eyes will start to drop.

tasuki answered Tuesday March 7 2006, 6:26 pm: There is nothing wrong with you. Teenagers are naturally nocturnal. For the most part, we don't really get tired until after midnight. That's why it's unfair that high school starts so early and elementary school starts much later (because the little kids "need their rest"--ha! they're up bouncing around at 5 in the morning). The doctor probably won't put you on sleep medicine. You probably have other problems (the drinking, for example), but insomnia is normal. Try reading in bed, rather than trying to sleep. If I were you try drinkin a hot cup of ovaltine or milo and you'll feel sleepy. Well also you should try running around and do chores and go for walks and stuff to get yourself tired so wen u hve your bath and a hot cup of milo or ovaltine you will feel drowsy!
PS- Don't ever take sleeping pills to sleep at your age because you willl get so hooked on them. My grandma had a stroke and she used to take sleeping pills cause at one point of her life she couldn't sleep and now that she has the stroke she got sooo hooked to them that she had trouble sleeping for the first week after she got it.Oh and for the first week she had withdrawal symptoms...feelin dizzy n stuff! LoViNu2mOuCh answered Monday March 6 2006, 7:31 pm: I know exactly how you feel, only it has been happening for 3 years now, and I just recently got help for it. Actually I happen to be severly depressed, and that has lead to my insomnia, so I think that there could be a possibility that you are depressed. You should deffinately try the sleeping pils...they work wonders. And maybe suggest to your mom that you should see a councelor. [ LoViNu2mOuCh's advice column | Ask LoViNu2mOuCh A Question ]
karenR answered Monday March 6 2006, 6:40 pm: People who are depressed usually sleep to much.
Insomnia isn't unusual. There are night s when I just can't get my brain to shut down! Its not real uncommon.
You will go to sleep when you get tired enough. I don't worry about it much myself. Taking something to sleep is usually pretty habit forming, pretty soon you don't get a real nights sleep unless you pop a pill.
You are right in consulting a doctor. Its the best thing to do. Remind mom about it without getting on her to bad about it. :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]
