Discoveries in chemistry

Question Posted Monday March 6 2006, 12:18 am

I need to find the five most significant discoveries in chemistry since 1970 and I've been searching google.com but I can't find anything. Would anyone be able to find me a website that has what I need?

Thank you.

One that I feel is greatly significant is the discovery made by Candace B. Pert, PH.D. in 1972. She was the one who discovered the opiate receptors in the brain. This discovery could eventually lead to helping those with drug addictions. She did not win a Nobel Prize for this but I think it was worthy of one. It could be because she was only 26 at the time and they felt she wasn't seasoned enough. Below is a web site with a compilation of all chemists who won the Nobel Prize. I would think any of these would be considered significant. Good luck in your project.

It is highly unlikely that you are going to find one source to answer that question. Not everyone is going to agree which discoveries are the most significant. I think the best approach is to google the terms history and chemistry and compile a list of all major discoveries. Be sure to check out multiple sources on the history of chemistry and discoveries and you should be able to see 5 big ones that are most often mentioned, and therefore very significant.
