Generally something happens to make you depressed, be it a major event like divorce, or a series of minor events like bullying.

Either way, if your doctor says you have depression, you should be able to talk it over with him and see what your options are.

If he thinks you don't need a physcologist, then you don't. He knows what is best and sometimes, just talknig things over with a friend or parent helps a lot.

I've always found music and drawing are good outlets for me. If you feel you can't talk to anyone you could write a journal as well.

Good Luck.x

There are many different kinds of depression. There is situational depression, which is when you have are in a bad situation and you get depressed. Then there is actual depression, that you really cannot control. It is because the chemicals in the brain are unbalanced. That is why there is medication. I am on medication and I can guarentee you it makes you feel so much better. If you have your doctor talk to your mom she will probably be more open to having you see someone for help. Because seeing a psychologist(sp?) really does help too.
I wish you the best of luck with that.

Not that it will change her mind, but if your doctor diagnosed you with depression, I'd think your mom would be more open to getting you help. But since she doesn't seem to be, here's my first vote: go to the school psychologist/counsler. They're there for a reason.
Also maybe it'd help convince your mom if you did some looking online and stuff for info about what depression can lead to.
I know from personal experience that it can get pretty nasty, and if you're under stress from school or other things that amplifies the depression and makes you feel like things are way out of control. Feeling like that can lead to things like self-injury and other similar things. Trust me, parents do NOT like living through that. Apparently it's just not pleasant to see their child upset and crying over everything all the time.

To answer the "is there something" question; kind of. Genetics can play a factor, like if one of your immedite family members has/had it you're a little more likely to have it as well. However, it can be from things like close friends/family dying or trying to commit suicide, parents going through a divorce can set it off. It's a lot to do with stress and the amout of stress ends up throwing the chemicals in your brain out of balance. To help that get back in balance there's a couple things you can do. One is get meds, but that's not always necessary. On your own you can keep track of the things that bother you like in a journal or something, and/or you can talk to someone (probably an adult) that you trust and can help you.

Good luck getting your mom to let you see someone.
