everyone in my grade says that if you are around someone who has there period for a long time then you will get it too (after you already had it a few times)
i don't know if it is true, but it seems true becasue i think it happened to me..
does anyone know if it is really true though?
Generally, this will only happen after a long period of time, as your bodies will gently adjust to each other. It's highly unlikely casual contact with anyone will have any affect on your period at all. [ alisonmarie's advice column | Ask alisonmarie A Question ]
Imperialistic answered Wednesday February 8 2006, 2:53 am: No, that's not exactly true.
However, you might find that the menstrual cycles of close female friends, and women you live with will probably match yours.
My best friend, my mother, my sister and I all get our periods around the same time and I have heard of many other instances of this happening.

karenR answered Wednesday February 8 2006, 12:24 am: Actually according to a behavioral psychology class I took its true.
Studies showed that mothers and daughters, those living in dorms and apartment buildings all had their cycles about the same time.
So, true or not I can't say for certain. But, it has been studied. Wish I could have found you some info but I had no luck. :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]
sizzlinmandolin answered Tuesday February 7 2006, 11:31 pm: Just a myth. Outside factors cannot affect your period at all. Think of it this way. There's a 1 in 4 chance that you will have your period at the same time as another person. There's 4 weeks in a month and you get it once a month. Plus, it's rare at a young age to have a regular cycle, so it jumps around a lot, increasing the chance of coincidence even more. [ sizzlinmandolin's advice column | Ask sizzlinmandolin A Question ]
Teza answered Tuesday February 7 2006, 11:31 pm: No that's not true. My friends mom said the same thing but it's just a saying though. She said if the person who has their period sits in a chair and you sit in it after, you get your period the next day or something and it's bogus. Lol, but you probablly got it because it was the time of the month or by coincidence. [ Teza's advice column | Ask Teza A Question ]
