pleaseeeee help!!!! ok so i have this dog named anne. and shes a grown dog and everything, but then we got another dog, but she's a puppy. her name's holly. ok so we got her when she was like 6 weeks old, and now she's about 4 months old. she's a shi-tzu, and we're trying to potty train her and everything, and we started when we got her, but then i think she was too small then. but now she's big enough to be potty trained, and we potty trained her to go on a potty training mat, and she does it ther, but whenever we put the actual litter box there, she's big enough to get in it and everything, but she just wont go to the bathroom there, she just goes everywher. also, she and anne eats the stuff we put in the litter box, because its not the sandy stuff, but its like little sticks in there and they keep eating it. which kind do you think we should get so they won't eat it anymore, and how do we potty train holly to go in her litter box, instead of her mat from now on? and also, how long do you think it'll take to potty train her? PLEASE HELP!!! I RATE HIGH FOR GOOD ANSWERS!!!

I dont' know why you'd even bother to litter box train your dog. It's much easier to teach it to pee outside. So I'd say to not even bother with a litter box.

Don't use the litter that the dogs eat. For now, just put the training mat in the litter box and put Holly in it every once in a while, or every time you think she's about to go to the bathroom. Do the same things that you did back when you were training her to use the matt alone, except now it's the matt along with the litter box.
When she starts to get the hang of going inside the box, on top of the matt, then start to add a small amount of litter over the matt, Keep adding more litter until you can just have litter without a training matt underneath it.
I will add, that next time you get a dog, it's not advisable to house train them using a training matt. Simply because of problems like this. If you use a matt, and then plan to switch the dog to going outside, or going in a litter box, then you'll run into many problems when it comes to getting the dog to switch where and what it goes to the bathroom on. Just a thought to think about in the future.
As for which litter to use... ask your veterinarian. If you call them, they may be able to give you some advice on what litters are less appealing to your dog, and what you can further to do keep your dog away from eating the litter.

Well, first of all, dogs don't go to the bathroom in litter boxes, cats do. Second of all, I don't think they make litter boxes for dogs. Third of all, you have to rain your dogs to got to the bathroom outside, when you walk them. I'm not trying tobe mean, but, I never heard anyone have their dog go to the bathroom in a litter box.

Umm...I've never trained my dog to go to a liter-box, but I do have an idea about this. Try putting the potty training mat in the liter-box and once she starts using it in the liter-box gradually remove the mat. Maybe that will help her go in the box. However, if your other dog anne is trained to go outside and you use a certain word to take her out. It shouldn't be a problem getting holly trained to go outside. I have two chiuahua's and I used my oldest one to train my youngest one. Depending on how long you spend a day trying to train her will depend on the time it takes. It might take 4 months and then again it might take 1 day. It just depends on you and the dog. Good luck with that and let me know if she does good!!!

Dogs dont use a litter box-they shit outside when they are taken for a walk.
If you don't walk them, they shit anywhere.
