Hyper little kitty

Question Posted Tuesday January 24 2006, 5:47 pm

I have two cats. One is an elderly cat +10 years of age, the other is almost a year old. The younger one was adopted from the Human Society and he's extremely loving so my cats adjusted ok to each other. The only problem I'm having now, is at night when I'm trying to sleep, the kitten wants to play. He makes noise all night long, playing with everything from his water bowl to my video games to just jumping off the furniture. I'd swear I had an elephant in my apartment sometimes. How can I get him to calm down more at night so I can sleep?

well, you can always take him in you bed with you and cuddle with him make him go to sleep and make him feel comfortable kittens need as much love as posible because you have to raise it just right because you have to enjoy a cat while it's still a kitten let your cat sleep on the bed with you if he starts getting out of control again put him in a cage at night time with food and water and comfort ,and put him by your bed then he can't mess with anything!!!put a few stuffed animals with it so it wont fell alone hope my advice helps

Hi.... I love cats and have three, Batgirl, Sissy and Luci..... I notice that they will lay around, relax and get quiet after having a 'catnip' party. I grow my own... but you can go to an herbstore or natural foods grocery and buy some in bulk... I keep it in a contain with a tight lid on it.... and then when they seem a little on edge or too playful... I'll spread about a 1/2 tsp or so of it out for each cat.... I have hardwood floors, so what's left over(they will eat some of it and then roll around in it and play with it) I easily can sweep up what's left.... if you have carpets, then layout a large piece of carboard perhaps and put it on that to keep it out of the carpet! After they mess around in it for a few minutes, my cats(they are all adults) will be found laying around sleeping or in deep relaxation. But I don't believe it works for real young cats(younger than 6 mos.....). Hope this helps... but for your young kitten... it's just a growing up phase I would think!

Goodluck!!!

if you have the money to buy a big cage then you
should buy one of those then and put him in there at nite...or keep him active in the day time..play with him whenever you can...but make sure you give the same attention to the other
cats too...hoped i helped...♥ alley

I have had two kittins so i know what you meen.

after a while your kitten will get used to the fact that there will be no playing during the night. for now just close your door at night and wait it out. it will pass, so don't worry about it.

also i wouldn't play with it before bed, that will just get it more hyper.

Try to have a good play session with him an hour or two before you go to sleep.

You could also schedule one of his feedings right before your bedtime. A full tummy can make a kitty sleepy.

If you don't have time to play with him, try something like a Panic Mouse:

We haven't gotten one of these yet, but we've been meaning to. If you had one, you could bring it out and turn it on about an hour or so before you go to bed, and maybe that would tire your kitty out. :-)

Keep your cat awake and active during the day and it will sleep through the night. My friend has 13 cats. I know this method works. If you can't play with the cat during the day then try a motorized toy. Let it run while you're not home to keep the kitten busy. It eats up batteries but you'll get to sleep at night.

You can close him in the bathroom with a water bowl, a cat treat(one of those ones that's like chewy and long lasting to entertain him for longer), a toy or two and a cushy place to sleep. You might be sad to do this but it give you a chance to have some time away from kitty- kitty has a chance to move around, play with toys, eat/drink, and hopefully settle down. On days when kitty is good(wait a little while until it recognizes the routine), kitty can come out. We did this with my dog and it worked extremely well. We don't usually have to put her away anymore unless she's being naughty- when we close the door she knows to settle down and then maybe she can come out later.
