Their not satisfied with their own lifes, So they make it seem so much better/worse than it really is.
If people make their life out worse than it really is, It's usually for attenion & for people to feel sorry for them because they don't get enough attenion & love at home.
People lie about clothes, money, cars & other things like that just to fit in with the right people.
People lie about how many people he/she have been with to make their self look like a stud/player or just to not look like a slut.
Some people lie just because it's became a horrible habit they've picked up.

This article i guess you could say explain it as best as it can be explained. I just say that people lie for reason like:
*Trying not to hurt your friends feelings
*Trying to gain self confidence or trying to get people to like them more
*Keeping from suffering any kind of punishment
